When I started my slow fashion journey in 2015 all of those thoughts & more were running through my head. I was a freshman in college with a closet full of fast fashion items that I’d never worn. Though I knew it was important, sustainable fashion was intimidating to me. I loved having a ton of clothes to choose from in my closet. I was afraid of sacrificing my personal style. And I didn’t have the money to buy all new sustainably made clothing.
I’ve learned a lot about what a sustainable closet really looks like since then. I’ve made all the mistakes – trying to give up fast fashion without addressing my consumer mindset, getting rid of clothes I still loved because they weren’t sustainably made, impulse shopping from expensive sustainable brands, thinking I could only own neutral colored clothes etc.
