Looking For Reasonably Priced Sustainable Fashion? These Brands Resell Their Used Clothes At A Discount
Ready to jump into sustainable fashion but are working with a budget? These sustainable brands resell their used clothes at a discount! Whether it’s a consignment shop, brand-direct samples, or a simple re-commerce shopping experience, you are sure to find reasonably priced sustainable fashion options from these brands. You can find everything from swimwear to activewear to formal wear to jeans from these brands below. Not only are they sustainably made, but they’re also secondhand. It’s like sustainable fashion squared!
Patagonia Worn Wear
Patagonia has always been a leader in sustainable fashion and their Worn Wear used gear shop has become a major part of that commitment. From reselling used gear online to offering free repairs in stores, Patagonia is all about keeping their clothes out of landfills and in peoples’ closets. Their secondhand gear is incredibly reasonably priced, hovering around 50% off depending on condition. Patagonia also has a “ReCrafted” section of Worn Wear featuring mended and up-cycled Patagonia items. The patchwork tees, down vests, and even overnight bags are one of a kind and designed to keep materials out of the landfill. Eileen Fisher Renew
Another leader in the sustainable fashion space, Eileen Fisher sees making clothes as a lifetime commitment. Lightly used Eileen Fisher clothes are resold on Renew at a good discount. There are also special collections on Renew, including the Resewn Collection (one of a kind items made from well loved Eileen Fisher pieces) and the Botanical Collection (featuring items dyed with natural dyes like Indigo). As Eileen Fisher items are investment pieces, taking advantage of their discounted lightly used goods is a great way to find a high quality sustainable piece at a discount.
Hackwith Design House Sustain Shop
Hackwith Design House, a great size-inclusive sustainable brand, is committed to sustainability in many ways. They reduce waste by following a make-to-order business model, using long-lasting materials, and taking back their well loved products and fixing them up so they can find new homes. HDH accepts their old items even if they have stains, small holes, or missing buttons. Then all items in great quality are resold as is and the rest are mended or transformed into something new. For every item you send in you receive $20 in credit. Prices range between $40 and $250, compared to $40 and $1650 for new items.
Boyish Jeans Consignment Shop
The few items I have from Boyish Jeans are by far my best investment purchases. I wear each item from Boyish in my closet at least once a week, and after owning them for a few years they still have lots of wear left in them! Denim in general can be expensive, let alone sustainable denim, so I love that Boyish partnered with Treet to set up a consignment shop on their website. Brand Direct items are sold directly by Boyish Jeans. These items could be returns that could not be resold, old styles, or even samples. Pre-loved items are secondhand Boyish products sold by verified Boyish customers. I’ve noticed that Brand Direct items are more reasonably priced than Pre-loved items being directly sold from customers. Since it is a consignment shop, sellers get a higher payout than most other “buy back” programs from sustainable brands. The selling price of the item (minus a fee for the platform) is far higher than a flat rate for any item sent back.
LACAUSA Replay Market
LACAUSA’s Replay Market is another consignment shop. All items are sold directly by customers and prices vary by seller and condition of the item. LACAUSA is another investment-piece sustainable brand but the prices for the Replay items are incredibly reasonable. In return for selling a pre-owned LACAUSA item you get 100% of the sale price in store credit.
Tradlands Worn Well Exchange
Tradlands is known for their high quality, timeless, ethically made clothing. Their consignment shop, the Worn Well Exchange, is a great extension for their mission of creating clothing that will last. Tradlands pieces are investments (with sweaters starting at $200+) so the Worn Well Exchange is a great way to get your hands on a Tradlands item at a discount.
