Jacket: Everlane ReNew Teddy Liner | Leggings: The Everlane Perform Leggings in Lichen c/o Everlane

Today Everlane released their latest product: the Perform Legging. I received these leggings about a month ago and have loved being able to test them out before they officially launch. Lots of you loved my Everlane Glove Boot ReKnit review, so in honor of launch day I wanted to share my thoughts on the Perform Leggings.
MATERIAL
These leggings are made from 58% recycled polyester and 42% elastane. They’re dyed in a BlueSign-certified facility, which means they meet strict chemical standards throughout production for impact on factory workers and impact on end-consumers. The leggings also have “technical sweat-wicking properties”, which make them great for performance workouts.
These leggings are SO soft. They’re thin, not too compressive but not non-compressive, and are not see-through. They really do feel like nothing when you’re wearing them. There was a multi-day stretch over winter break that I wore these leggings and my favorite robe on my couch and was as comfortable as could be. Everlane calls these performance legging with the intention that it could be used for intense workouts, but I personally can only see myself using these leggings for more low-impact activities like yoga or errands or just hanging out. I would feel nervous wearing a thinner material for more intense workouts or activities.
I love the color options. Black and ink grey are definitely more classic legging colors, but I love this greenish-grey color that they call Lichen and the Brandy Rose terracotta color. Each of these colors are so versatile and the non-classic colors are such fresh colors for activewear. I’m excited to see what other colors they release in the future (maybe a lilac or golden brown/mustard??).
FIT & DESIGN
One of my favorite things about these leggings is the waistband. It’s perfectly high-rise and it doesn’t slip down no matter how much you move around. The waistband also has a hidden pocket. I also was impressed with how long the full-length leggings were. As someone who’s 5’5″ I often have trouble with full-length leggings being way too long on me, but these full-length leggings hit me right in the middle of my ankle. There is also has an ankle-length option, which is three inches shorter than the full-length leggings (25 inches vs. 28 inches).
As someone who’s used to wearing thicker leggings in darker colors, one thing I can’t seem to get over is how many of the little bumps and lines of my body show through the material. I have perpetually swollen knees and was unreasonably self conscious about them the first time I wore these leggings. I also always struggle with panty lines in these leggings – even with my no-show underwear. Everyone has a different body and many people (especially women) feel self-conscious about one part of their body or another, but I – a thin-bodied customer who wears a size small – have never felt self-conscious about my knees in leggings before. My guess is that this issue is particular to the lighter color of this particular pair of leggings, but I thought this point was important to include.
I hoped Everlane’s leggings would have a unique design aspect to them, but was ultimately not surprised by the basic design of the legging. Everlane is an essentials brand, so the minimalist design is true to the brand’s identity.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
Like many of Everlane’s ReNew products (like this fleece jacket that I’m wearing), these leggings are a great entryway into more sustainable alternatives for consumers who want to shop more consciously. The $58 price tag is significantly less expensive than other performance leggings like Lululemon and has a slight price advantage over other leggings made from recycled materials. These leggings aren’t going to solve the issue of plastic athleticwear, but they’re a step in the right direction.
They are not my favorite leggings of all time, but they sure are up there. They’re incredibly soft, are perfectly high-waisted, hit me at the right length on my ankle, and stay in place when I wear them. If you’re in the market for a thin, buttery soft, but strong legging, the Perform Leggings are a great option.
WHAT I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT
I’d love to hear more as to whether Everlane plans on increasing the percentage of recycled content in these leggings and if not, why. According to their transparent pricing infographic, the materials account for 43% of the true cost of the legging, so I am sure cost has something to do with that, but it also could have something to do with the performance-driven design.
