My summer internship at TOMS ended more than a week ago and I am still blown away by everything I learned and all of the people I met over my nine weeks there. I worked in the supply chain planning department, working on a project specifically about sample shoes. I have my first supply chain management graduate class at USC tomorrow, so I came into this summer internship with little to no supply chain experience, but from day one at TOMS I was included in team meetings, was able to meet with employees to learn about what they do and how their job was related to my project, and even got to sit down and talk with Blake Mycoskie himself. My favorite takeaway from my job this summer was seeing a successful business doing more than just make money. I have long admired businesses that make an effort to impact the world in a positive way, and learning about TOMS’ giving program was such an eye-opening and inspiring experience. If you’re interested in learning how TOMS gives, check out all of the information available on their website here.
Before starting at TOMS I didn’t do much research on their current product selection, and was pleasantly surprised by how many different products they sell!! I definitely put my employee discount to good use this summer (and yes – TOMS still gives a pair of shoes when the employee discount is used!!). Before our first day, the interns were told TOMS employees dress pretty casually, and that jeans, a tee and our favorite TOMS would be perfectly appropriate for our first day. I wouldn’t necessarily describe my personal style as casual, but I did want to make sure I had some TOMS in my arsenal to rotate through this summer. I shared a few TOMS internship moments on Instagram and got a number of requests to show a weeks worth of outfits, so of course I left the task of capturing outfit photos until my last week there. So here we are: a recap of my outfits during my last week at TOMS.
Monday
Top: Abercrombie & Fitch via Goodwill | Skirt: Missguided via a friend | Shoes: TOMS | Glasses: Eye Buy Direct (blue light blocking!)
These are some of my all time favorite TOMS (AND they’re currently on sale!!). I got them toward the middle of the summer and have worn them consistently since. I have seen cheetah/leopard/whatever animal print you call this popping up left and right recently and can definitely see it becoming a major Fall staple. This top I picked up on one of my many summer Goodwill trips. Even though the office at TOMS is pretty casual, I still wanted to dress up a bit more whenever I wore jeans (case in point) so this top was a perfect combo. I also was deep diving in excel for the day so I had my blue light blocking glasses on, which completely saved me this summer. I’ve found that they prevent headaches and digital eye strain, which is game changing for someone who works on a computer all day! I also just found out Eye Buy Direct has a similar one for one giving model as TOMS, so if you’re in the market for blue light blocking glasses definitely check EBD out.
Tuesday
Top: TOMS | Skirt: Ted Baker Sample Sale | Jacket: Melrose Trading Post | Shoes: TOMS
When we went on our intern field trip to our flagship store in Abbot Kinney, TOMS had just begun selling tee shirts and I went a bit crazy. I got the grey logo tee for my dad, the ‘give’ tee for me and one for my mom, and this black logo tee for myself. To dress the tee shirt up a bit I paired it with this Ted Baker skirt that I got at a sample sale earlier this summer. It’s one of my new favorite skirts AND it has pockets.
Wednesday
Top: Zara via Goodwill | Jacket: Melrose Trading Post | Skirt: Kestan | Shoes: TOMS
On Wednesday we gave our final intern presentations to our managers, mentors and the senior leadership team. These TOMS mules were always my go-to professional shoes for the summer (I even wore them to grad school orientation). I wore my new Tencel skirt from Kestan (which I actually got at Smorgasburg) and a matching black top, and threw on my favorite striped denim jacket. I don’t pull my hair back often, but since we were presenting and I have a tendency to play with my hair, I wanted to keep it up and out of my face.
Thursday
Dress: Reformation | Tee: Reformation | Shoes: TOMS
I’m pretty sure that I wore this outfit once a week this summer. I have loved this Reformation dress ever since I got it last Fall I and take every opportunity to wear it. One of my fellow TOMS interns wore these shoes almost every day this summer and by the last week I was so inspired I got some for myself. I love the espadrille block heel and can definitely see myself wearing these through the Fall in LA. Thursday night was our Intern Farewell Dinner with our intern coordinator and our managers, and it was a bittersweet end to our nine weeks at TOMS.
Friday
Top: Goodwill |Button Down: Uniqlo via Goodwill | Jeans: Reformation | Shoes: TOMS
These sandals were the first things I bought with my employee discount and it’s safe to say I wore them 4 out of 5 days each week at work. They are comfortable, go with almost anything, and are perfect for transitioning from work to a dinner out with friends. The only thing I struggled with was how loud they were walking around on the second floor of TOMS. It’s quite quiet up there, especially around the IT and Supply Chain departments where I worked, and I always felt like I was just stomping around when I wore these sandals. Regardless of the sounds they made, though, I continued to wear them all the time. These sunglasses were my most recent purchase and I LOVE them. They are such a unique shape and I’ve been wearing them everywhere since they arrived.
