The Line 3 Pipeline is an oil sands pipeline that runs from Alberta, CA through Minnesota to Wisconsin. The original Line 3 pipeline has over 900 “structural integrity anomalies” and the plan is to build an entirely new pipeline through a new corridor and leave the old one exactly as it is. Communities living near Line 3 have already been impacted by spills from the pipeline; they do not need to deal with another one being built. Line 3 runs through Indigenous treaty territory and untouched wetlands and there is a growing movement to halt the construction. We need to unite to Stop Line 3. Keep reading for more information, resources, and action items.
FREE Action Items To Stop Line 3
Sign the petition. This petition calls on President Biden to immediately stop construction of the Line 3 Pipeline. President Biden is able to review any permits granted by the Trump Administration, including the Line 3 permit.
Call your senators. Call4Climate provides a script and more information for calling your senators about taking climate action. If you’re more of a writer, check out this blog post about writing to companies about their sustainability (which can be used as a guide to writing to elected officials!).
Sign a statement of opposition & pledge to take action. While this is an informal statement, it is a great way to commit to taking action and get it down in writing. This statement can be submitted through Action Network.
Create art. If you’re an artist, you can contribute to the open call for art to stop Line 3. Email your work (with your name!) to art@resistline3.org to be used on social media and organizers. Check out this Google Drive folder with more information about the Art Storm.
Share information. The more people aware of the injustices of Line 3 reconstruction, the better. StopLine3.org has fact sheets that are easy to share and a ton of information available under the “issues” section of their website.
Request a lawn sign. While lawn signs won’t stop Line 3 all on their own, they do spark curiosity. Whether a neighbor asks you about what Line 3 is or a passerby googles the efforts to Stop Line 3, lawn signs can help inform people and draw them into the movement.
