Over the past four years I have transitioned from using liners, tampons, and pads to a completely zero waste period. I started out by switching to organic cotton tampons, then invested in period underwear, and then finally made the switch to a menstrual cup. You by no means have to have a zero waste period (or a zero waste anything) to be part of the environmental movement, but this is something I’ve chosen to do to both reduce my waste and save money!
In the video below I take you through what inspired each of my sustainable swaps – from learning about endocrine disrupting pesticides in tampons to learning that the average person who menstruates disposes of 11,000+ menstrual products in their lifetime.
