I always say it’s important to invest in sustainable basics and products that you wear most often. So it should be no surprise that I prioritize sustainable underwear in my own closet. That being said, many sustainable underwear options are made from synthetic materials like recycled polyester. PACT Affordable organic cotton underwear
Pact is an amazing affordable basics brand. Their products are made with organic cotton and are sewn in Fair Trade Certified factories. If you are looking for sustainable options for the whole family – underwear or basics in general – Pact is a great option. They have a large selection of styles for men and children in addition to their women’s section. If your area looking for larger packs of underwear Pact is probably your best bet from this list. They also have variety packs and bundles that bring the cost per pair down!

SUBSET Fair Trade Affordable Organic Cotton Underwear
Subset (formerly Knickey) makes fair trade certified organic cotton underwear. They come in a variety of skin toned shades and fun jewel toned colors. They also have a recycling program where you can send in your old undies to be turned into insulation. Coming in at $20 per pair, and starter packs at a discount, Knickey is a relatively affordable option for sustainable underwear.

KENT COMPOSTABLE + AFFORDABLE ORGANIC COTTON UNDERWEAR
Kent underwear is made in California from GOTS certified organic pima cotton. The coolest part about this brand is that the underwear decomposes in just 90 days in a composting facility! I love that Kent works with LA Compost to put their claims to the test! It’s great to see a brand that gives clear instructions about how to properly dispose of their products at the end of their life.

ORGANIC BASICS ORGANIC COTTON UNDERWEAR
Organic Basics has a variety of underwear including a wide selection of organic cotton styles. The few pairs I have from Organic Basics are great. They hold up well in the wash, have some stretch but won’t get overstretched over time, and will last a long time. See the pairs I have from Organic Basics here.

Thunderpants USA Patterned Underwear
Thunderpants USA underwear is made from GOTS Certified and Fair Trade certified organic cotton and manufactured in the US in a minority woman-owned business in Oregon. I love Thunderpants’ fun patterns and their commitment to improving their sustainability and traceability whenever they can.

Mate The Label Organic Cotton Underwear
Mate The Label has forever been one of my favorite organic cotton basics brands. They recently expanded their product lines to include intimates – underwear, bralettes, and tank tops. Their styles remind me of a prior favorite sustainable underlayer brand ARQ which ceased operations in 2023.
