Resources For Voting In The 2020 Election

There are so many issues at stake during the election this year. In honor of National Voter Registration Day today I have compiled some resources to make sure you are registered and prepared to vote. Take some time today to register to vote if you haven’t already, check your voter registration status, create a voting plan, and research the candidates on your ballot.

Need to register to vote?

Here are the deadlines to register to vote in each state.

Already registered?

Check your voter registration status HERE.

Make sure you are registered at the correct address (especially if you have moved recently) and that your registration is under the correct name (if your name has changed recently).

Research your candidates

See who’s on your ballot HERE. By typing in your address this website will pull up every candidate that will be on your ballot, and most candidates will have profiles with links to their platforms. It is important to know not only know where the candidates for president stand on issues that are important to you, but also where candidates for local and state office stand on those same issues.

If any of the candidates on your ballot are incumbents in the House of Representatives or the Senate, you can look at their voting records on Congress.gov.

You can also see where the candidates on your ballot get funding from on Opensecrets.org. Watch this video from Climate Diva about why knowing which companies and industries are donating to your candidates is important.

Have a voting plan

Whether you are voting in person or online, it is important to plan ahead. Make sure you have the pieces of identification necessary, apply for mail-in ballots on time, and get your vote in.

If you are voting by mail make sure you request your absentee ballot on time. Below are the deadlines for each state.

Additionally, if you show up to your polling place and are told you are not on the voter roll, but you have checked your voter registration status and have confirmed you are at the correct polling place, do not leave the polling place: call the Election Protection Hotline.
