I’m back with another post in my sustainable denim diaries series! Last time I posted about the incredible sustainable denim initiative happening over at Everlane, and today I’m talking about another one of my favorite brands — Reformation. In October, Reformation announced the launch of their sister brand, Ref Jeans. Ref Jeans is a bit nicer on the wallet (with items ranging in price from $28 to $178) and tackles one huge issue: manufacturing denim, one of the dirtiest products to produce. All of the denim products in the Ref Jeans line are made from surplus or deadstock fabric, and according to Reformation, the production process for one pair of Ref jeans saves 1,468 gallons of water.

To make things even better, Reformation took an extra step to offset the impact of the fashion industry by launching The Wet Program. For every pair of jeans purchased, Reformation will clean 1,000 gallons of water, starting with the San Gabriel River in California. Reformation has partnered with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) and the National Forest Foundation for The Wet Program. In their Sustainability Report for Quarter 1 of 2018, reformation stated that 100% of their carbon, water and waste footprint has been offset. The Wet Program has played an integral role in their offset initiative; In the rest of 2018 “we will contribute 27 million gallons of fresh water to critically dewatered rivers and wetlands in California. We do this with our buddies from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s Water Restoration Program, who are focused on water security for people, fish and wildlife”. On top of all of this, Reformation’s products are produced ethically in their factory in Los Angeles.

I scored these jeans on super super sale at their sample sale in the fall, and literally live in them. They are the SOFTEST jeans in the world and honestly feel just as comfortable as my favorite leggings. They were sold at the sample sale because they have a small rip on the back by the waistband, but I’m so glad I was able to scoop them up (for only $45 by the way). I’ve also been looking at this Reformation tee since it came out, and bought it as soon as it was restocked last week. PSA: Ref Jeans collections are launched often, but are only made in small batches, so things sell out incredibly fast.

On a totally different note, I am absolutely obsessed with this bag. I got it at an estate sale last summer and for some reason left it at home until Spring Break. Since I brought it back to school with me for the last few months, it has become my go to bag. It fits my reusable straws, it is great for running to the farmers market or going out for dinner, and goes with just about everything in my closet. I also love it because I bought it secondhand, and buying leather secondhand is incredibly important!!
